Great News!

The reason behind me making a new website is because my professor gave me an extra credit assignment, which was to create an electronic portfolio. I chose Weebly.com because it has so much features. So, not only is this my new website, it is my portfolio and will be treated as such. Stay tuned guys! I will be more active on this blog and my new website as well.

My Opinion

I absolutely love Tennessee State University! I have lived in Nashville all my life and never walked around TSU's campus; I have never even saw myself attending Tennessee State University. My mother attended the university when I was a kid, and she loved it. Growing up, I have always heard rumors about TSU, which made me even more skeptical about even applying. But after I graduated high school, I applied and became accepted to the university. Once I touched the campus for the first time, I fell in love. Upon induction into the university, my major has became Mass Communications with a concentration in Journalism. I have met people from across the country here. The staff and faculty are very friendly and treat the students with the utmost respect. I plan to earn my BS in Communications from Tennessee State University in 2016. I also plan to receive my Masters in Journalism from Tennessee State University as well. I am not sure where I want to receive my doctoral degree. But overall, Tennessee State University is one of the best things that ever happened to me. It has taught me about how to manage time, more information about leadership, how to deal with  real-life situations, and how to be an adult who is preparing for the world. If there is anyone who does not know what college to attend, I recommend that he/she should apply to Tennessee State University, the Land of Golden Sunshine.

Sorry for the Wait

The reason for my absence:

Hello, you guys! I am so sorry for not posting like I thought I would! It is the end of my freshman year, and it is getting rough. I have finals to study for and that is all I have been doing. I feel like my social life is at a standstill right now. But don't fret! I will start back on my blogging in a few days. Stay tuned. Thanks!

Outfit of the Day!

This is my T.G.I.F. Look

This is my outfit that I chose to wear around campus today. I must say, I have receiving some wonderful comments. I was trying to color block but at the same time I did not want to stray away from the main colors.
Today, I am wearing a light-blue George shirt that I had purchased from Walmart (they really have nice dress shirts). I am wearing a powdered pink bow-tie that I purchased from Ninos; their bow-ties range around twenty to thirty dollars). I also have on a navy blue Polo baseball cap. My top portion of my ensemble is completed with a navy blue Abercrombie & Fitch sweater wrapped around my neck. The bottom portion of today's outfit is adding more contrast with my green shorts I purchased from Dillard's- the belt actually came with the shorts (YAY ME!). To add more pink, I am wearing some powdered pink socks that I have also purchased from Walmart. And lastly, I have on a pair of gold-brown colored shoes that I purchased online.
I just love fashion because I love to mix and match. I also love the way it makes me feel when I receive compliments- not to say that I NEED compliments- but I love them. Ever since I was a child, I always had a knack for fashion. I mainly gravitate toward the business savvy look or the hey-I'm-a-professional-golfer look. I basically like to look professional with a hint of my own personal touches. Needless to say, fashion is of utmost importance in my life.

Deed or No Deed

If Someone Dropped Some Money, Would You Tell Them or Keep it For Yourself????

So, I had to go to work at 3:00 PM today and I got in my car around 2:15 PM. As I was driving out of the parking lot, I noticed a fellow college student walking to class. I almost drove past her doing 10 mph, and I noticed that some money fell out of her pocket. The first thing that came to my mind was, "OOOH! Money!" But my conscience told me to tell that person that her money was on the ground. I proceeded to tell her that her money fell out of her pocket and she gave me a big "Thank you." As I drove off, I though about how good it made me feel for participating in this good deed. It felt like God warmed up my heart and gave me a big hug. So what would  you have done??????

Tweet of the Day

[This happens to me a LOT!]

Not all men do this, but everyone has experienced this before.

Most gentlemen often call women someone else's name. It has been proven. It may not be intentional, but it is disrespectful to a certain degree. I have called one girl another girl's name yesterday and she said to me, "What did you call me?" I felt so bad and it dawned on me that her name was Mia. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Gentlemen, we have to do better.

Business Savvy for Everyday College Look

This is what I love to do- dress up. Ever since I was a young boy, I always wanted to look mature. Earlier this year, I read on a wall in a barber shop, "When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you do good." After reading that, I really became inspired. With the business savvy look, you can mix and match so many different things. You can choose from hundreds of different ties, shirts and coats.
Here I am wearing a key lime George shirt, a blue floral tie, and a gray Ralph Lauren blazer. This made me feel the Oh-I-am-the-president-of-a-popular-company attitude.Stay tuned as I will post more fashion blogs in the immediate future.

Joan Rivers Comes For Kim Kardashian!

So, it seems that Joan Rivers has made a joke about Kim Kardashian that I personally found funny. She tweets about Kris Jenner's iPhone case that says "Queen of F*cking Everything" and she then excludes the "everything" and points it towards Kim Kardashian. Oh Joan, I simply love you.

DENIM DAY AT HBCUs

Today is April 24, 2013. It is also Denim Day at HBCUs and today marks the fifth Denim Day At HBCUs.. Denim Day is simply an effort to an HBCU project called Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW). People around campus have been coming  to me asking, "What is Denim Day?" or, "What is Denim Day about?" For those who do not know about Denim Day or would like to know more about Denim Day, please keep reading.
The History of Denim Day
In 1992, an 18-year old girl was taking driving lessons from her 45-year old driving instructor for her very first time. The instructor drives her to an isolated road and forcefully rapes her. He pulls her out of the vehicle, wrestles her out of one leg of her denim
jeans, and rapes her. He threatened to kill her if she said a word to anybody. She then tells her parents when she returned home that night. The girl's parents begin to support her to press charges. Her driving instructor was arrested and prosecuted; he was also convicted and sentenced to jail. He then appeals the sentence.
This particular case makes it all the way to the Italian Supreme Court and within a matter of days the case against the driving instructor was dismissed, overturned, and he was released from jail.
Why Denim?
This particular statement was released by the Italian Supreme Court Chief Judge declared; "because the victim wore very, very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them... and by removing the jeans... it was no longer rape but consensual sex."
My Thoughts
I feel that it was unethical and immoral to dismiss a case like that. He could have had a gun held to her head and threatened to shoot her had she not helped him remove her jeans. I feel that courts don't think about things like that. And my condolence goes out to that girl and every woman who has been raped before. I deeply am sorry that you women have to go through this. I'm wearing this shirt for you.
Sincerely, Gerald Green
